Artist Statement:
I grew up in rural Connecticut, moving west permanently
after falling in love with the wide open spaces while
working on the Navajo Reservation midway through college.
After earning a BFA at University of Colorado, I made
jewelry in Boulder for ten years, then settled unexpectedly
in Nebraska. I maintain a studio in Lincoln, where I
create both a production line and one of a kind pieces in
combinations of sterling, 18k and 22k gold. Always
influenced by landscape and natural forms, my house is
filled with collections of rocks, shells, pottery shards and
other found objects whose shapes and textures have caught my
eye during years of walks and travels. My recent work is
inspired by the subtle, repetitive forms found in the flora
and wild grasses of the prairie. In miniaturizing a vast
open landscape by creating these pieces of jewelry, I am
able to focus on the details of my surroundings which might
otherwise be easily overlooked. |
