Artist Statement:
Our
natural world is my endless reservoir. The textures of tree
bark, crumbly mica, the amazing terrain of an oyster shell
and other such wonders truly astound me. Where the stem in a
leaf and its nutrient carrying veins merge is beautiful.
Circular ripples from a stone tossed in the water, the fine
lines of sand built by tidal changes
the shadows during winter sunsets are powerful
enduring images of things so momentary. These gifts no
doubt powerfully lead my work.
The process of
sawing, filing, soldering and hammering metal satisfies what
must be a primal need to build. I use mostly hand tools,
stakes, anvils, old chisels and a torch to create jewelry
that hopefully connects with the wearer on another level
that is beyond ornament. |
